Which Hungarian regions do Czech companies import from?

Hungarian manufacturing is clustered in a handful of areas, each with its own product mix. The table sums up what buyers typically source in each region and the transit time to expect. Individual cities have their own pages, linked in the table and in the city list further down.

How long does freight from Hungary to the Czech Republic take?

Győr is about 210 km from Brno, Budapest roughly 530 km from Prague and Debrecen close to 790 km from Prague. Most trucks do not cross Austria; they run through Slovakia instead – from Győr and Budapest via the Rajka–Čunovo crossing and Bratislava to Břeclav and Brno. Loads from northern and eastern Hungary use Komárom–Komárno or Parassapuszta–Šahy, and cargo for eastern Slovakia goes via Tornyosnémeti–Milhosť. Hungarian HU-GO tolls as well as Slovak and Czech tolls are included in the price.

Weekends need planning. Trucks over 7.5 t face weekend and holiday restrictions in Hungary, and in the Czech Republic heavy trucks may not run on Sundays and public holidays between 13:00 and 22:00. We therefore book Friday collections in the morning; if the supplier can only load in the afternoon, we agree a Monday delivery.

How many pallets justify a part load instead of groupage?

It comes down to loading metres and weight. A full trailer has 13.6 loading metres, takes 33 euro pallets and carries around 24 tonnes; one euro pallet uses 0.4 ldm.

Shipment sizeRecommended serviceWhat to prepare
1–6 palletsgroupage via cross-dockdimensions, weight, whether pallets stack
7–18 pallets (about 3–7 ldm)direct part load, no transhipmentloading metres, side-loading option
18–33 pallets or over 12 tfull truck, 13.6 ldmloading time, reference number, dock type
Urgent parts, a few cartonsvan or expressexact address and consignee contact

Groupage costs less but is transhipped and takes about a day longer. From six pallets up, a direct part load is usually the smarter choice.

What should you know about collections in Hungary?

Large plants in the industrial parks of Győr, Székesfehérvár or Kecskemét load at a dock in assigned time slots. Often the supplier books the slot; sometimes the driver needs a loading reference or he will not get past the gatehouse. Warehouses on the Budapest ring motorway work in shifts, while smaller producers and wineries in the south usually load on weekdays from early morning to early afternoon, frequently with just a pallet truck. Long goods such as profiles or steel bars must be loaded from the side or top, so please mention them in your request.

Besides Christmas and Easter, Hungary has national holidays in spring, in August and in autumn, and also observes Whit Monday. Most warehouses close on those days, so we confirm the loading date in advance.

Who books the transport – you or the Hungarian supplier?

That depends on the Incoterm. Under EXW or FCA the buyer arranges carriage, and we take care of it for you straight from the supplier. Under DAP the supplier pays the freight. If their carrier's dates do not suit you, negotiating EXW gives you control of the transport.

Which documents does the shipment need?

Hungary is in the EU, so there is no customs clearance. A CMR consignment note, which we issue, plus the supplier's delivery note or invoice are enough. For food, a proof of origin and, if your customer asks for it, a temperature log are worth adding.

Can several suppliers be combined in one truck?

Yes. If you buy from several companies – say parts in Győr and packaging in Tatabánya – we plan a multi-pick route into one vehicle. You avoid paying for separate shipments and your warehouse unloads only once. The reverse direction works too: see transport to Hungary.

To quote quickly we need:

  • the supplier's address in Hungary and the delivery point in the Czech Republic or Slovakia,
  • loading hours and any reference number or time slot,
  • number of pallets or loading metres, dimensions and total weight,
  • type of goods and whether temperature control or side loading is needed,
  • the date the goods will be ready.

During office hours you will have a price within 30 minutes, and a vehicle is usually confirmed within 24 hours.

Buying from Hungary every week? We set up fixed loading days, for example in Győr or Kecskemét, a fixed rate and return loads from the Czech Republic – see regular transport, or get in touch directly.

Frequently asked questions

Győr to Brno, Debrecen to Prague – what transit should I expect?
Usually 2–3 days from loading. Győr is only about 210 km from Brno, while Debrecen is about 790 km from Prague.
Which border crossing do goods from Hungary use to reach the Czech Republic?
Mostly Rajka and Čunovo near Bratislava, then the Slovak D2 to Brno. For eastern Slovakia we use Tornyosnémeti and Milhosť.
Is the Hungarian HU-GO toll built into your price?
Yes. HU-GO is charged per kilometre driven and, together with the Slovak and Czech tolls, it is part of the price we quote.
When are trucks restricted on Hungarian roads?
Vehicles over 7.5 t face restrictions at weekends and on public holidays. We plan loading so the goods do not sit idle until Monday.
Which public holidays in Hungary matter when planning a pick-up?
For example 15 March, Easter Monday, 1 May, 20 August, 23 October and 1 November. Before these days we recommend loading early.
Do you carry automotive parts from Győr, Kecskemét and Debrecen?
Yes, we regularly move components and finished parts from these industrial centres and can keep to fixed unloading time slots.
Can one Hungarian load be split between Bratislava and a Czech address?
Yes, Slovakia is on the way. The truck unloads part in Bratislava or Trnava and continues to Brno or Prague.
Do goods from Hungary need a customs declaration?
No. Hungary is in the EU and Schengen, so goods travel duty-free and an invoice or delivery note plus a CMR consignment note are enough.
Can you ship Tokaj or Eger wine?
Yes, wine from Tokaj, Eger and Villány travels on pallets in a closed vehicle. The shipper issues the excise duty document.
Can you handle chilled vegetables and cured meats from Szeged?
Yes, food from the southern Great Plain travels in a reefer trailer set to the temperature the goods need.
Can loadings in Budapest and Győr share one truck?
Yes, both cities lie on the M1 towards Bratislava, so the second pick-up is practically on the way.
How far are Szeged and Debrecen from Brno?
Szeged is about 500 km away, Debrecen about 590 km. Goods from either city usually reach Brno within 2–3 days.
Is there groupage from Budapest for single pallets?
Yes, we offer groupage from 1 pallet, and you pay only for the space your shipment takes up in the truck.
Is a van enough for a smaller shipment from Hungary?
Often, yes. Vans up to 3.5 t use the electronic vignette instead of HU-GO and hold roughly 5 to 10 pallets depending on size.
Is there a return service from Czech warehouses to Hungarian customers?
Yes, we also arrange transport to Hungary and for regular orders we link the outbound and return legs, which lowers the cost of both.
