Engines, electronics and a proving ground on the Austrian border

Vas and Zala counties form a narrow strip along Burgenland and Styria. Industry here is concentrated in a few towns that supply car plants across Central Europe:

Szombathelyelectronics and electrical parts for carmakers, suppliers in the industrial parkmodules and wiring harnesses in ESD packaging

Through Austria, or via Győr and Bratislava?

Two equally good roads lead from Szombathely to South Moravia; we choose by loading time and delivery point:

  • Austrian route: the Bucsu/Schachendorf or Rábafüzes/Heiligenkreuz crossing, through Burgenland towards Vienna and up the A5 to Drasenhofen–Mikulov, then the D52 into Brno. Austrian tolls apply, as does the weekend ban from Saturday 15:00 to Sunday 22:00 plus night restrictions.
  • Hungarian–Slovak route: the M86 to Csorna, on towards Győr and via the M1 and M15 to Rajka, past Bratislava on the D2 through Kúty to Lanžhot and Brno. This way part of the load can be dropped in Bratislava, Trnava or Senica.

The Hungarian HU-GO toll and the Austrian, Slovak and Czech tolls are included in the price we quote. Hungary restricts vehicles over 7.5 t at weekends and on holidays, so we plan the loading date around that.

Engines and electronics need different handling

Finished engines and cylinder heads travel in steel racks loaded by forklift from the side or rear; the racks are heavy but low, so weight distribution on the trailer is what matters. Empty racks go back to Szentgotthárd – on a regular lane we take them as a return load. Electronics from Szombathely are the opposite: light, sensitive to shocks and static, best moved without transshipment. Smaller lots go as groupage from 1 pallet or in a van for about 5 or 10 pallets; a full trailer takes 33 euro pallets and about 24 t.

Your enquiry from western Hungary in five points

  1. Loading town and postcode (Szombathely, Szentgotthárd, Zalaegerszeg…).
  2. Delivery point in the Czech Republic or Slovakia.
  3. Goods and packaging – racks, mesh boxes, pallets, ESD.
  4. Number of pieces, dimensions and weight.
  5. Date and any production window.

You get a quote within 30 minutes during office hours, and we usually arrange the vehicle within 24 hours of confirmation. Hungary is in the EU and Schengen, so goods travel without customs.

Frequently asked questions

Is a plant in South Moravia nearer to Szombathely than one near Prague?
Much nearer: Vas county borders Burgenland, so a Mikulov–Brno delivery is about 290 km, while Prague means about 490 km, the extra stretch running up the D1 through the Vysočina highlands.
Which crossing do you use from Szentgotthárd into Austria?
From Szentgotthárd the nearest is Rábafüzes/Heiligenkreuz, from Szombathely rather Bucsu/Schachendorf. Both lead through Burgenland towards Vienna and Mikulov.
Do you carry engines in steel racks from Szentgotthárd?
Yes, the racks are forklift-loaded and we watch the weight distribution on the trailer. Empty racks can travel back as a return load.
Can part of the load be dropped in Bratislava or Trnava?
Yes, on the route via Győr and Rajka the truck passes Bratislava, so a Slovak drop sits naturally on the way to Brno.
A rack of engines is ready in Szentgotthárd on Friday afternoon – which way does it go?
Burgenland and the A5 are closed to heavy trucks from Saturday 15:00, so a late Friday load usually takes the M86, Rajka and the Slovak D2 instead of Heiligenkreuz.
Are HU-GO and Austrian tolls included?
Yes, Hungarian, Austrian, Slovak and Czech tolls are part of the quoted price, whichever of the two routes we take.
Can you move test components from the proving ground near Zalaegerszeg?
Yes, measuring equipment and test parts travel in a closed vehicle, on their own and without transshipment if required.
How many days does electronics take from Szombathely to Prague?
Allow 2–3 days; Brno and South Moravia are reached sooner, being only about 290 km away.
Can you handle wiring harnesses in ESD packaging from Szombathely?
Yes, ESD-packed pallets are strapped, not reloaded, and on request travel without other cargo.
Can you combine pick-ups in Sárvár and Körmend?
Yes, both towns lie between Szombathely and the border, so a second pick-up costs little time before the truck heads north.
Are there weekend truck restrictions in Hungary?
Yes, vehicles over 7.5 t face weekend and holiday restrictions, so we plan Friday-afternoon loadings carefully.
Do goods from western Hungary need customs clearance?
No, Hungary is in the EU and Schengen; nothing is cleared at the Austrian or Slovak border.
A line in Czechia is short of machined parts from Körmend – what is quickest?
A dedicated van for about 5 or 10 pallets leaves straight after loading and, via Bucsu and Vienna, reaches South Moravia the same evening or next morning.
Does Pápa fit on a run from Vas county?
On the Győr–Rajka route it does: Pápa lies north-east of Sárvár, so food or light goods from its plants are added before the truck turns onto the M1.
Can you set up a regular Szombathely–Brno lane?
Yes, on fixed days with empties going back – the roughly 290 km suit a shuttle well.
