Transport from Estonia to the Czech Republic usually takes 2–3 days from loading: a truck from Tallinn, Tartu or Pärnu drives through Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, and the goods need no customs clearance. Knapek Spedition in Břeclav arranges imports from Estonia as full truckloads or pallet by pallet and delivers anywhere in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Whether it is goods for trade or material for manufacturing – timber and wood products – we collect it directly from your supplier in Estonia. For the other direction see freight to Estonia.
Estonia is the northernmost stop on the Baltic corridor and also the gateway to Finland. For a Czech consignee that means a longer haul than from Poland or Lithuania, but also the option of combining Estonian goods with further pickups on the way south. General information on both directions is on the page freight to Estonia.
How long does transport from Estonia to the Czech Republic take?
By road, Tallinn is roughly 1,600 km from Prague and about 1,550 km from Brno. A single driver has to respect driving breaks and daily rest, so we plan 2–3 days from loading to unloading. The truck crosses four countries, all inside Schengen, so there is no queueing at borders.
| Leg | What matters on it |
|---|---|
| Estonia (Tallinn – Pärnu – border) | most pickups in the north and west; the road charge for vehicles over 3.5 t is built into the price |
| Latvia (around Riga) | extra pallets from Latvian warehouses can be added, see freight to Latvia |
| Lithuania (Kaunas) | consolidation point for groupage, linked to imports from Lithuania |
| Poland | the longest leg, with Polish driving bans on public holidays and in summer |
| Czech Republic and Slovakia | unloading anywhere; Moravia and Slovakia are closer than Bohemia |
Transit times for other countries are listed in European transit times.
Where we load in Estonia: Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu and beyond
Much of Estonia's export output comes from around the capital, but many manufacturers are based in the south and along the coast. We collect from your supplier anywhere in Estonia, including smaller towns and plants away from the main roads.
| Region | Typical goods for Czech buyers | Loading note |
|---|---|---|
| Tallinn and Harju County | electronics and electrical assembly, consumer goods from distribution centres | most pickups, warehouses with docks and time slots |
| Ports of Muuga and Paldiski | goods landed from ships, steel components, building materials | terminal reference and release needed |
| Tartu and the south-east | food and drink, wooden products, smaller production orders | closer to the Latvian border, often combined with Tallinn |
| Pärnu and the west coast | sawn timber, wooden houses and wall panels, furniture | right on the route south, no detour |
| North-east (Narva, Rakvere) | metalwork, building elements | longer positioning of the vehicle, plan ahead |
For light, bulky goods such as timber panels or upholstered furniture, floor space matters more than weight. We pick the right trailer using our overview of vehicle and trailer types.
Tallinn as the gateway to Finland: ports and ferry link
Ferries from Tallinn reach Helsinki in about two hours. That is useful for companies buying in both Estonia and Finland: Finnish goods can cross to Tallinn and travel south together with Estonian pallets. Stand-alone Finnish shipments are covered on transport from Finland to the Czech Republic, where we plan 3–4 days.
When goods arrive by ship at Muuga or Paldiski, we need the release date and the reference under which the terminal hands them over. That way the vehicle arrives on time instead of waiting in the queue.
Full truckload or groupage from Estonia?
On a route this long it pays to check how much floor space the goods really take. One euro pallet equals 0.4 loading metres; the loading metre calculator does the maths and the article what is a loading metre explains the background.
- Full truckload – 33 euro pallets, 13.6 ldm, about 24 t; straight from the supplier to you without transhipment.
- Part load – a few loading metres, with the vehicle picking up more freight in Latvia or Lithuania on the way.
- Groupage – from just 1 pallet, you pay only for the space used; details under pallet transport.
- Urgent shipment – smaller volumes in a dedicated vehicle, see express transport.
Which option suits your volume is discussed in parcel, pallet or truck. For pallet dimensions and load capacity, see also all about the euro pallet.
Which documents does an import from Estonia need?
Estonia is an EU member, so goods cross the borders without duty or a customs declaration. The usual commercial and transport documents are enough:
- the CMR consignment note, issued by the sender or carrier at loading,
- an invoice or delivery note from the Estonian supplier,
- for goods subject to excise duty, the accompanying documents the supplier issues for them.
The delivery term decides who books the haulage. Under EXW or FCA it is the buyer – you – and that is where we come in. Under DAP the Estonian seller orders the transport. More on moving goods within the Union is in the article importing goods from the EU.
Driving bans and road charges on freight from Estonia
Poland has the most restrictions: on public holidays vehicles over 12 t may not run from 8:00 to 22:00, and the evening before from 18:00 to 22:00. From the last Friday in June to the end of August there are also bans on Friday 18–22, Saturday 8–14 and Sunday 8–22. In the Czech Republic vehicles over 7.5 t are banned on Sundays and public holidays from 13:00 to 22:00, and in summer also on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. See truck driving bans for the current overview, and freight to Poland for the Polish leg.
Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Polish road charges and tolls are already included in the quote, with nothing added later. What drives the price is explained on transport costs.
