What is the route from the Czech Republic to Latvia?

We reach Latvia along the Via Baltica through Poland and Lithuania. From the Czech Republic the route runs via Wrocław or Katowice to Warsaw, via Białystok to the Budzisko–Kalvarija crossing and on through Kaunas, Panevėžys and Bauska to Riga. Prague to Riga is about 1,350 km, roughly 200 km less from Ostrava.

The whole route is overland inside Schengen, with no ferry and no border checks. According to our transit time overview we plan 2–3 days from loading; the ports of Ventspils and Liepāja in the west are a further 150–200 km from Riga.

Riga is the largest city in the Baltics and a logistics hub for the whole region, so we often combine shipments for Latvia with goods for Estonia and Lithuania.

Which tolls and rules apply in Latvia?

  • Tolls on the route: Poland charges the distance-based e-TOLL, Lithuania and Latvia use time-based vignettes for trucks.

  • Winter: snow and frost are common in Latvia in winter – trucks run with winter equipment and frost-sensitive goods travel temperature-controlled.
  • Borders: Latvia's borders with Russia and Belarus are external EU borders – we do not go there. Within the EU goods travel without customs duty and the currency is the euro.
