We arrange freight from Lithuania to the Czech Republic from Vilnius, Kaunas, the port of Klaipėda and other Lithuanian towns – from a single pallet to a full truck. From Vilnius and Kaunas, goods normally reach the Czech Republic within 2 days of loading. Knapek Spedition in Břeclav has organised road haulage from Lithuania since 2011 through more than 500 vetted contracted carriers and delivers anywhere in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Imports of goods and material from Lithuania usually mean furniture components and timber. Shipping goods from the Czech Republic to Lithuania can be arranged in the same enquiry.
Where in Lithuania do most shipments start?
Lithuanian production and warehousing cluster in three areas: the capital Vilnius in the east, Kaunas in the centre with its large logistics parks, and the port city of Klaipėda on the coast. Šiauliai and Panevėžys are usually served together with Kaunas or Vilnius.
| Area | Typical goods | Distance and usual transit |
|---|---|---|
| Vilnius and surroundings | electronics, optics, food | approx. 1,150 km to Prague, 1,050 km to Brno / up to 2 days |
| Kaunas and central Lithuania | furniture, textiles, stock from logistics warehouses | slightly closer to the Polish border / up to 2 days |
| Klaipėda and the west | port cargo, timber, fish, food | approx. 1,250 km to Prague / usually 2 days |
| Šiauliai, Panevėžys | furniture and wood products, industrial parts | collected en route via Kaunas |
More on the main loading points is on freight from Vilnius and Kaunas to the Czech Republic and shipping from Klaipėda and western Lithuania. Further towns and a map are listed below this text.
How long does freight from Lithuania to the Czech Republic take?
For a standard collection allow about two days. In pure kilometres it would be one long day at the wheel, but the driver must respect statutory driving and rest times, so unloading usually falls on the second day. If the goods are needed sooner, we arrange a double-crewed express. The exact delivery day is confirmed in the quote.
Which route does the truck take from Lithuania?
From Vilnius the route follows the A1 to Kaunas and then the A5 to the Kalvarija–Budzisko border crossing. In Poland it continues on the Via Baltica (S61) and then either the S8 past Warsaw or the road via Białystok further south, usually entering the Czech Republic near Ostrava. We always route around Belarus and the Kaliningrad region. No ferry is needed for Czech deliveries – overland is faster. Lithuanian, Polish and Czech tolls are included in the price.
Since most of the journey runs through Poland, we watch the Polish restrictions: vehicles over 12 t may not run on public holidays and, during the summer season, on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays at set hours. Before long weekends we therefore time the collection so the truck clears Poland before the ban begins.
What to check before collection in Lithuania
Lithuanian warehouses start early and usually load throughout the working day, though the big logistics parks around Kaunas and Vilnius work with booked times and reference numbers. Furniture makers often load at a dock, while smaller workshops and wood processors tend to load from the side by forklift. The port of Klaipėda works differently – containers or goods are collected from the terminal once released and according to the terminal's instructions.
- Loading address and warehouse hours.
- Reference or booking number for the driver.
- Dock or side loading?
- Number of pallets, dimensions, weight, stackability.
- For upholstered furniture, packaging and protection.
- For dairy and fish, the required temperature.
Keep Lithuanian holidays in mind too: besides Christmas and Easter, St John's Day in June is a day off, along with several national holidays when companies do not load. Confirm the date with your supplier in advance.
When is groupage enough, and when should you book a whole truck?
The smallest shipment is one pallet in groupage. It travels via a cross-dock with other goods and is therefore a little slower. Once your goods fill a larger part of the trailer, a part load without transhipment is the better option, and from about half a trailer it is worth comparing with a full truck.
| Shipment size | Recommended service | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| 1–6 pallets | groupage | dimensions, weight, stackability |
| furniture and bulky goods | part load charged by loading metre | shipment length in ldm, item height |
| boards, doors | on pallets for forklift unloading | length and weight per pallet |
| dairy, fish | reefer trailer | temperature, food documents |
| textiles | closed curtain-sider or box trailer | number of cartons or pallets |
| 33 euro pallets / 13.6 ldm / about 24 t | full truck load (FTL) | time slot and reference |
Loading metres are easy to work out: a euro pallet takes 0.4 ldm, so twelve pallets need about 4.8 ldm. For furniture that cannot be stacked, the loading metre drives the price far more than the weight does.
Can you collect from several Lithuanian suppliers at once?
Yes. Vilnius and Kaunas lie on the same motorway and share the direction towards the Polish border, so two or three pick-ups need no detour. Klaipėda we combine with Kaunas or Šiauliai. Send us the addresses and ready dates and we will plan the order of collections; delivery can go to one or several points in Czechia or Slovakia.
Who books the transport follows from the Incoterms. Under EXW and FCA the buyer arranges it – you, through us – and under DAP the Lithuanian supplier does. Booking through us gives you control over timing and the option to combine shipments.
Documents and customs
Lithuania is part of the EU and Schengen, so goods from Lithuania travel without customs duty. You need an invoice or delivery note and a CMR consignment note. Customs clearance only concerns goods from non-EU countries arriving through the port of Klaipėda that have not yet been released for free circulation – that needs settling before collection.
