Ulm is about 470 km from Prague by road and a truck gets there in 1–2 days; loaded in the morning in the Donautal estate, it usually reaches the Czech plant gate the next morning.
Heavy engineering on the upper Danube: product, vehicle, what to watch
Ulm and its surroundings build things that fit in no ordinary carton: buses, turntable ladders, cranes and aircraft interiors. For suppliers and buyers in the Czech Republic this means the vehicle type has to be settled before the date.
| Product and place | Vehicle type | Note |
|---|---|---|
| bus parts, Neu-Ulm | curtain-sider, part load | body panels, seats and glazing in racks, empty racks back |
| fire engines and turntable ladders, Ulm | curtain-sider or open trailer | long ladder sections, lashed along their full length |
| mobile cranes, Ehingen | flatbed, low-loader | telescopic booms and counterweights, over-length and heavy |
| tower cranes, Biberach an der Riß | flatbed, extendable trailer | lattice mast sections, permits arranged according to size |
| aircraft cabin interiors, Laupheim | closed vehicle on air suspension | light but bulky and fragile panels, not stacked |
Ulm on the A7/A8 cross: via Rozvadov or via Folmava
The motorway junction at Elchingen gives two equal options. North on the A7 to Crailsheim and then the A6 past Nuremberg takes the truck to Waidhaus – Rozvadov and along the D5 to Plzeň and Prague; that is the usual way for Central Bohemia, Brno and Slovakia. The A8 past Augsburg and Munich, then via Regensburg and Cham, leads to Furth im Wald – Folmava, shorter for Domažlice, Klatovy or the Šumava area. German and Czech tolls are covered by the price we send you.
Brno is about 680 km from Ulm; from Prague the truck continues on the D1 and on to Slovak plants in Trnava, Nitra or Žilina. Vehicles over 7.5 t may not drive in Germany on Sundays and public holidays from 0:00 to 22:00; Ulm and Neu-Ulm both observe Epiphany, Corpus Christi and All Saints' Day.
Oversize crane and bus parts: what we need from you
- length, width, height and weight of every piece, for a boom also its centre of gravity;
- how it is loaded – by crane, forklift or from a dock;
- whether it is a single piece or a set that must travel together;
- for cabin parts and electronics, whether they are in ESD or shock-indicator packaging.
We arrange oversize permits for Germany and the Czech Republic; depending on size an escort may be required. Standard goods go in a curtain-sider: a full truck takes 33 euro pallets, 13.6 loading metres and about 24 t, groupage starts at 1 pallet, and a van can bring smaller urgent parts. There is no customs between Germany and the Czech Republic, both are in the EU.
