A truck from Augsburg to Prague (about 400 km) arrives within 1 day – a part loaded in the morning by the Lech is often at a Czech assembly line the same evening or before the first shift next day.
Augsburg as a machine-building city: what the factories make and how it travels
Augsburg does not depend on one big plant. Robot building, aircraft parts, printing presses, marine engines and a paper mill sit side by side, and each needs a different vehicle and a different way of loading.
| Place | What is made | How we move it |
|---|---|---|
| Augsburg | industrial robots and automation cells | in wooden crates, loaded by forklift or crane, closed trailer with sliding roof |
| Augsburg, Donauwörth | fuselage sections, doors and helicopter airframe parts | shock-sensitive, in jigs or crates, always a closed vehicle, no transhipment |
| Augsburg | printing presses and press modules | oversize parts, we arrange the permits, often open trailer or low-loader |
| Augsburg | large engines, gearboxes, turbomachinery | heavy items on skids, chain lashing, axle load checked |
| Augsburg, Gersthofen | paper reels, packaging, consumer goods | reels upright or lying depending on packing, dry box |
Two ways from the Lech to the Czech border
For southern and western Bohemia the truck takes the A8 past Munich, then via Regensburg and Cham to the Furth im Wald – Folmava crossing and through Domažlice to Plzeň. When unloading is in Prague, the Vysočina highlands or Brno, the northern line usually works better: the B2 past Donauwörth to Nuremberg, the A6 to Waidhaus – Rozvadov and on along the D5. German and Czech tolls are included in the price we quote. Slovakia is reached on the D1 via Brno, whether the plant is in Trnava, Nitra or Žilina.
On Sundays and public holidays vehicles over 7.5 t may not drive in Germany from 0:00 to 22:00. Bavaria also keeps Epiphany and Corpus Christi, and Augsburg has its own city holiday on 8 August, the Peace Festival – we schedule loading ahead of these days.
Supplying a plant: time windows, packing and empties back
- Time windows: if the Czech plant only receives at set times, the truck leaves Augsburg so it reaches the gate with a margin.
- Returnables: steel racks and stillages from the line come back to Swabia as a return load.
- Control electronics: switch cabinets and robot controllers in ESD packaging stay in their original packing and are never left in the open.
- Weight versus volume: gearboxes fill a trailer by weight, robot cells by space – that decides between van, part load and full truck.
A full truck takes 33 euro pallets, 13.6 loading metres and about 24 t. A van carries around 5 pallets, a larger van around 10. Groupage starts at 1 pallet. Goods from Bavaria are EU goods, so there is no customs clearance.
How to ask for a quote from Augsburg
Send us the loading address (say a site in Lechhausen or the plant in Donauwörth), the dimensions and weight of the largest piece, whether a crane is on site, and where and by what time the goods must arrive. We reply with a price within 30 minutes in office hours. A vehicle is usually arranged within 24 hours of confirmation, on this short run often for the same or next day.
