A truck from Osnabrück to Prague covers about 640 km and the goods reach the consignee in 1–2 days; steel loaded in the afternoon in Georgsmarienhütte is usually at the Czech plant the next day.
The Osnabrück region by sector
In north-west Germany a car plant, a steel works, the meat industry and farm-machinery makers sit close together. Each sector ships a different load and so needs a different trailer.
| Sector and place | What travels | What we watch |
|---|---|---|
| car plant in Osnabrück | body parts, convertibles and special bodies, parts in racks | returnable racks back, fixed unloading windows at the line |
| steel works in Georgsmarienhütte | bar steel in bundles, forgings, semi-finished products | axle load, side loading by crane, bundles lashed |
| Oldenburg Münsterland and Emsland | chilled meat, poultry, cured products | reefer trailer, temperature log for the whole trip |
| Lingen, Spelle near Rheine, Hasbergen | agricultural machinery, trailers, spare parts | wide machines on a low-loader, we arrange the permit |
| Melle, Bramsche | components and part loads for engineering | added to another pick-up along the A30 |
Via Hanover and Dresden, or via Kassel and Nuremberg
The main route runs east on the A30 to Bad Oeynhausen, along the A2 past Hanover and Magdeburg, then on the A14 and A4 to Dresden and the A17 over the Breitenau – Krásný Les crossing onto the D8 to Ústí nad Labem and Prague. That is how we run to Prague, northern Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia. For Plzeň and southern Bohemia the route on the A33 and A44 to Kassel, via Erfurt, the A71 and A73 to Nuremberg and the A6 to Waidhaus – Rozvadov can be better. Tolls on both routes are included in the quoted price.
Brno is about 850 km away, further than Prague; the truck continues on the D1 and takes goods for Slovak plants on via Břeclav or Hodonín. Lower Saxony keeps Reformation Day on 31 October, when vehicles over 7.5 t may not drive from 0:00 to 22:00, as on every Sunday; neighbouring Rheine is already in North Rhine-Westphalia, which observes Corpus Christi and All Saints' Day instead.
Steel, bodies and meat: how they are loaded
- Bars and forgings: bundles go on a curtain-sider loaded from above or from the side, spread so that no axle is overloaded. The truck is full by weight long before it runs out of space.
- Parts from the car plant: racks and bins of body parts travel without transhipment so the paint stays undamaged; empties go back to Osnabrück.
- Meat and poultry: a reefer trailer set to the required temperature, with a printout of the temperature record at unloading.
A full truck carries 33 euro pallets, 13.6 loading metres or about 24 t. Groupage starts at 1 pallet, urgent parts go by van for around 5 or 10 pallets. Goods from Lower Saxony are EU goods and travel without customs.
What to put in a quote request from Osnabrück
Give us the exact loading point (Osnabrück, Georgsmarienhütte, Lingen…), type of goods, weight and dimensions, the required temperature for meat and the bundle length for steel. If the delivery goes to a line with a time window, add the window. In office hours we send a price within 30 minutes and usually arrange a vehicle within 24 hours of confirmation.
