The copper basin between Legnica and Głogów

North of the Sudetes lies one of Europe's largest copper mining and processing areas. Around the mines and smelters, zones with engineering and automotive production have grown up:

  • Legnica and Głogów – copper smelters: cathodes, copper wire rod and other copper semi-finished products.
  • Lubin and Polkowice – ore mining and related engineering; engine and car-part production in the Polkowice subzone.
  • Legnica economic zone – parts for car plants, metal and plastic components.
  • Jawor – passenger-car engines and suppliers around the plant.
  • Bolesławiec – hand-painted stoneware, pottery and building ceramics.

What leaves the basin and how to handle it

GoodsFromWhat matters
Copper wire rod coilsLegnica, Głogówvery heavy and compact; spread along the trailer for axle loads, wedges and anti-slip mats, a strap over every coil
Copper cathodes in bundlesGłogów, Legnicalow, heavy bundles; payload is used up within a few metres of deck, bundles must not slide under braking
Engines and engine partsPolkowice, Jaworsteel racks, forklift loading, delivery in the plant's window, empty racks back
Car partsLegnica zonecontainers on pallets, sensitive parts not overloaded by stacking
Stoneware and potteryBolesławiecfragile; cartons with void fill, stretch-wrapped pallets, limited stacking and smooth driving

With copper a truck is "full" by weight, not by space. So we need the weight of each coil or bundle and how many there are. For overhead crane loading we book a trailer with a sliding roof.

The S3 south: the direct line into Bohemia

From Legnica the S3 expressway runs south via Jawor and Bolków to Kamienna Góra and the Lubawka – Královec crossing. Beyond the border the truck continues via Trutnov to the D11 motorway and on to Hradec Králové and Prague. For Moravia and Brno it is better to go via Świdnica and Kłodzko to the Kudowa-Słone – Náchod crossing. Polish e-TOLL and Czech toll on the D11 and other sections are included in the price we quote. Slovak addresses are served via Moravia.

No customs, but Polish holidays

Copper from Poland is EU goods: no customs declaration and no border checks. When planning we do watch Polish public holidays, when heavy trucks stay off the road, and Czech Sunday afternoons.

What we need to quote from Legnica

  • the smelter or plant where we load and how (crane, forklift, dock),
  • type of goods, number of pieces and weight per coil, bundle or rack,
  • delivery point and time window in the Czech Republic or Slovakia.

You get the price within 30 minutes during office hours, and we usually arrange the vehicle within 24 hours of confirmation. Smaller consignments of pottery or parts go by groupage from 1 pallet.

Frequently asked questions

How many copper wire rod coils from Legnica fit on one truck?
Weight decides, not space – a truck carries about 24 t. Send the weight per coil and the count and we plan how they sit on the trailer.
How are copper cathodes from Głogów secured?
Bundles sit on anti-slip mats, are spread out for axle loads and each is strapped down. They must not shift under braking.
Is copper loaded by crane?
At the smelters often yes. That is why we book a trailer with a sliding roof for loading from above.
Which route does a truck take from Legnica to Prague?
The S3 via Jawor and Bolków to the Lubawka – Královec crossing, then via Trutnov on the D11. That is about 260 km.
How do goods from Legnica get to Brno?
Usually via Świdnica and Kłodzko to the Kudowa-Słone – Náchod crossing and on through Svitavy. Brno is about 300 km away.
Can you deliver engines from Polkowice to a Czech plant within its window?
Yes, tell us the unloading window. We plan the Polkowice pick-up so the truck is on time, and empty racks can ride back.
Do you carry engines from Jawor?
Yes, Jawor lies right on the S3 towards the border. Engine racks are loaded by forklift and strapped.
What packaging does Bolesławiec stoneware need?
In cartons with void fill, on stretch-wrapped pallets with limited stacking. Fragile goods are best sent direct or by groupage with little handling.
Can a pallet of Bolesławiec pottery join another load?
Yes, smaller pottery consignments go by groupage from 1 pallet. Bolesławiec sits on the A4, which links to the route to the Czech Republic.
Does copper have to travel under a tarpaulin?
Yes, coils and cathodes ride in a covered curtainsider so rain and road dirt do not reach them on the way.
Does copper from Poland need customs papers?
No, it is EU goods. A CMR note and delivery note are enough, and the border at Královec has no checks.
Can you deliver car parts from the Legnica zone to Slovakia?
Yes, via Moravia we deliver anywhere in Slovakia, for example Trnava, Nitra or Žilina.
Can you combine pick-ups in Lubin and Polkowice?
Yes, both towns are close together in the copper basin. One vehicle covers both and then heads south on the S3.
Do trucks run from Legnica on Polish public holidays?
No, heavy trucks stay off Polish roads on public holidays. We move loading to the day before.
Is a pick-up at the Głogów smelter dearer than in Legnica?
We price by location and weight; Głogów lies further north, so the run is a little longer. You get the figure within 30 minutes during office hours.
