How long does freight from Romania to the Czech Republic take?

Transit runs from loading at your supplier to unloading at your site. The Banat and Crișana are only about 640–660 km from Brno, so goods from Timișoara or Oradea often reach the Czech Republic the next day. Transylvania, Oltenia and the Bucharest area are further east but still fit within 2–3 days; the Black Sea coast is the longest leg. For Friday loadings we build in a buffer: in the Czech Republic vehicles over 7.5 t may not run on Sundays and public holidays from 13:00 to 22:00, in summer there are extra limits on Friday evening and Saturday morning, and other countries along the route have rules of their own.

Which route does the truck take?

The backbone is the A1 motorway from Bucharest via Pitești, Sibiu, Deva, Timișoara and Arad to the Nădlac border crossing. From there the vehicle crosses Hungary towards Budapest and continues via Bratislava to Brno, Prague or Ostrava. Northern Transylvania and Oradea exit through Borș, which also suits deliveries to eastern Slovakia via Debrecen and Miskolc. Romania is in the EU and the Schengen area, there are no systematic border checks and no customs duty. The Romanian rovinieta, bridge fees and tolls in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are included in the price.

Collecting in Romania: what to expect

Large plants in the industrial parks around Timișoara, Arad, Sibiu or Pitești load at docks in fixed time slots and usually ask for an order or loading reference – without it the truck will not get past the gate. Smaller joinery workshops, sawmills and furniture makers in the mountain regions often have no dock, so we book a curtain-sider that can be side-loaded by forklift or top-loaded by crane. Most warehouses load on weekdays during the day, some only in the morning. Around Orthodox Easter and Pentecost, the national day in early December and the turn of the year many sites close, so we agree those loadings in advance.

  • exact loading address with the six-digit Romanian postcode,
  • loading hours and a warehouse contact, ideally English-speaking,
  • order or loading reference for the gate,
  • loading method – dock, side loading, crane,
  • for returnable packaging, the quantity and where it goes back.

How many pallets are worth sending as groupage?

A full trailer offers 13.6 loading metres, 33 euro pallets and roughly 24 t. One euro pallet takes 0.4 loading metres. Depending on volume we suggest:

Shipment sizeRecommended serviceWhat to prepare
1 to about 6 palletsgroupage from 1 palletwrapped pallets, address label, weight per pallet

Can several Romanian suppliers share one truck?

Yes, and in Romania it often makes sense. Sibiu, Deva, Arad and Timișoara sit one after another on the same motorway, so one vehicle can collect from two or three suppliers on its way west and deliver everything in one run. Brașov with Sibiu, or Pitești with Craiova, combine just as well. We propose the loading order in the quote so that goods for the first drop are at the doors.

Importing from Romania every week?

For regular flows we agree fixed loading days – say Tuesday in the Banat and Thursday in Transylvania – on stable terms. Returnable packaging, mesh boxes and empty pallets can travel back to the supplier on the run to Romania. We deliver anywhere in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, including warehouses that work with booked slots and advance notice.

Who books the transport under Incoterms?

Under EXW or FCA the buyer arranges transport – you book it with us and we collect from the supplier. Under DAP the Romanian seller takes care of it. A CMR consignment note plus a delivery note or invoice are all the paperwork needed. EU goods travel without customs; only overseas containers collected at Constanța must be cleared by the importer's customs agent before loading.

What to send us for a quote

  1. supplier address and delivery point anywhere in the Czech Republic or Slovakia,
  2. loading hours and reference,
  3. number of pallets or loading metres and total weight,
  4. type of goods and ready date.

You get a quote within 30 minutes during office hours, and a vehicle is usually arranged within 24 hours of confirmation. Since 2011 we have worked with more than 500 vetted contracted carriers, so we find space even for one pallet. Frequently asked questions

How many days does a pallet shipment from Romania take to reach Brno?
From western Romania – Timișoara, Arad and Oradea, about 640–660 km from Brno – usually 2–3 days, often at the shorter end. The same range applies to Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Brașov and Bucharest; from Constanța allow 3–4 days.
Is the Hungarian border still checked now that Romania is in Schengen?
Since 1 January 2025 Romania has been a full Schengen member and systematic checks have ended. Random police checks can happen, but long truck queues at the border are gone.
Will the truck cross at Nădlac or at Borș?
From Banat, southern Transylvania and Bucharest usually at Nădlac, on the A1 and the Hungarian M43. From Oradea and Cluj-Napoca more often at Borș, which also suits deliveries to eastern Slovakia.
Who pays the rovinieta and the Danube bridge tolls?
The Romanian rovinieta, the Fetești bridge toll and the tolls in Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic are all included in the freight price. There is nothing extra to pay.
Do you move automotive parts from Romania on fixed schedules?
Yes, from Banat, Arad, Sibiu and Brașov. For regular supply we agree fixed loading days and take the returnable racks and boxes back to Romania.
Can you transport solid-wood furniture from Romania?
Yes, furniture and wood products from Transylvania and Bukovina travel in a curtainsider or box trailer. Pieces should be on pallets, with corner protection and wrapping.
Can you collect goods from a container at Constanța port?
Yes, from warehouses and transshipment sites at the port. Goods from outside the EU must be customs-cleared by the importer's agent before loading.
How do goods from Romania reach eastern Slovakia?
From Oradea or Cluj-Napoca via Borș, Debrecen and Miskolc to Košice. The truck does not need to go round through Budapest at all.
Does the stretch between Sibiu and Pitești slow trucks down?
The A1 is still being built there and freight uses the busier Olt valley road. We allow for it in planning, and from Bucharest transit usually stays at 2–3 days.
Which Romanian public holidays affect collections?
Mainly Orthodox Easter and Pentecost, 15 August, 30 November, National Day on 1 December and the New Year period. Warehouses often close, so we plan loads around these dates early.
Can you load in Brașov, Sibiu and Arad on one truck?
Yes, all three lie on the way west towards Nădlac. We suggest the combination and the order of stops directly in the quote.
What paperwork does a shipment from Romania to the Czech Republic need?
An invoice or delivery note and a CMR consignment note. No customs documents are needed, as Romania is in the EU.
I have three pallets in Cluj-Napoca – will they go as groupage?
Yes, groupage starts at 1 pallet. Your three pallets travel with other freight from Transylvania and you only pay for the space they take.
How do Hungarian weekend restrictions affect imports from Romania?
Trucks over 7.5 t face weekend and holiday restrictions in Hungary. Goods loaded on a Thursday or Friday are planned so they do not sit idle over the weekend.
Do trucks also run from the Czech Republic back to Romania?
Yes, we arrange the opposite direction too. For regular work we link the outbound and return legs, which helps the price.
