From Vorarlberg goods reach the Czech Republic within 1 day – Prague is about 570 km away via Germany, Brno about 780 km, and a load collected in Dornbirn in the morning is often in West Bohemia by evening.
Austria's most industrial state: fittings, lighting, machinery and cheese
Vorarlberg is small, but by share of industrial jobs it is one of the most industrial parts of Austria. Manufacturers sit close together in the Rhine valley between Bregenz and Feldkirch and in the Walgau towards Bludenz. Each industry needs its own handling, though:
| Place | Goods | How we handle them |
|---|---|---|
| Höchst, Lustenau, Götzis | furniture fittings, hinges, drawer runners | small cartons but heavy pallets – we watch payload and stacking |
| Dornbirn | luminaires and lighting technology | light, bulky and delicate cartons, enclosed trailer, no transhipment |
| Lustenau, Dornbirn, Hohenems | embroidery, lace, technical fabrics | rolls and cartons kept dry, protected from moisture and dust |
| Wolfurt, Nenzing | ropeways, cranes and machine assemblies | long and heavy parts, crane loading, permits for oversize |
| Hard | plastic packaging and bottle preforms | very light, loading metres decide |
| Bludenz, Rankweil, Bregenzerwald | chocolate, fruit juices, cheese | in summer a refrigerated vehicle for chocolate and cheese, juices as heavy pallets |
Why we leave Vorarlberg through Germany, not through Tyrol
The "Austrian" way over the Arlberg, along the Inn valley and via Salzburg and Linz is longer, crosses a pass or tunnel and runs through sections with Austrian night-time and sectoral truck restrictions. So the vehicle almost always goes through Germany:
- A14 through the Rhine valley and the Pfänder tunnel to the border at Hörbranz,
- A96 past Lindau and Memmingen to Munich,
- then either via Regensburg and Cham to the Furth im Wald – Folmava crossing and on to Plzeň (South and West Bohemia), or via Nuremberg and the A6 to Waidhaus – Rozvadov and the D5 to Prague; for Moravia and Slovakia the D1 follows.
Austrian toll on the A14 as well as German and Czech tolls are included in the price we send you. Mind the weekend: in Germany vehicles over 7.5 t may not drive on Sundays and public holidays from 0:00 to 22:00, and Austria's weekend ban starts on Saturday at 15:00. A Friday collection in Dornbirn is therefore planned for the morning, so the truck reaches the Czech border the same day.
Switzerland and Liechtenstein next door
Lustenau and Hohenems sit right on the Swiss border, Feldkirch next to Liechtenstein. Goods from Vorarlberg move duty-free within the EU, but a load from the Swiss or Liechtenstein side needs export and transit documents prepared by the shipper's customs agent. If you want to combine pick-ups on both banks of the Rhine, let us know in advance.
Your enquiry from Dornbirn, Bregenz or Feldkirch
Send the loading place, the address in the Czech Republic or Slovakia, the number of pallets or crates with weight, and the date. For lighting and textiles say whether they may be stacked; for machine parts, give the weight of the heaviest piece. A full truck takes 33 euro pallets and 13.6 loading metres (about 24 t); groupage takes even a single pallet. You get a price within 30 minutes in office hours and usually a vehicle within 24 hours of confirmation.
