We arrange freight from Nice and the Côte d'Azur to the Czech Republic with a usual transit of 2–3 days from loading – as a full truck, a part load, groupage from one pallet, or a smaller vehicle where an articulated truck cannot go. Prague is about 1,200 km away and Brno about 1,350 km, and delivery can go to any address in the Czech Republic or Slovakia.
Which way does the truck go from Nice – via Ventimiglia or up the Rhône valley?
Nice is squeezed between the sea, the Maritime Alps and the Italian border just past Menton. That gives it two almost equal corridors to Czechia, which no other French city has:
- Italian route – the A8 through the tunnels to Ventimiglia, along the Ligurian coast to Genoa, then via Milan and Verona to the Brenner Pass, Tyrol and Bavaria. Shorter, and the better choice for urgent freight or loads bound for Brno and Slovakia. Pallets can be added in Genoa on the way – see freight from Genoa.
- French route – the A8 west to Aix-en-Provence, the A7 up the Rhône valley to Lyon, then past Besançon and Mulhouse across the Rhine. Longer, but with no Alpine pass and no Italian Sunday bans. It allows combining the coast with Provence (freight from Marseille) or with collections in the Lyon area.
We pick the route by loading day, delivery deadline and any extra pick-ups. All tolls along the way are included in the price we quote.
Which places on the coast do we cover, and with what vehicle?
Tech parks, old towns and clifftop villas sit side by side here, so the address decides the vehicle more than the pallet count does:
| Location | Typical goods | Vehicle and loading |
|---|---|---|
| Sophia Antipolis (Valbonne, Biot) | servers, measuring and lab instruments, telecoms equipment | trailer or van; offices and labs often have no dock, so a tail-lift vehicle |
| Carros and the Var valley | electronics, food, packaging | industrial zone with docks, standard trailer |
| Saint-Laurent-du-Var, edge of Nice | stock from wholesale warehouses and showrooms | dock or side loading, agree the time in advance |
| Nice – port and old town | boat equipment, furniture, shop goods | restricted access and delivery windows, smaller truck |
| Cannes – congress centre, La Bocca | exhibition stands, parts for yacht yards | collection time set by the event organiser, loading after dismantling |
| Antibes, Cap d'Antibes | yacht parts and fittings, goods from villas | port entry booked in advance, villas by van only |
| Grasse and the hills above Cannes | goods from workshops and small hillside warehouses | narrow hairpins, small tail-lift truck |
If goods from several addresses do not fit one small vehicle, we bring them to the edge of the conurbation and transfer them onto the trailer that heads north.
What if a full-size truck cannot reach the pick-up address?
A villa above the sea, a shop in a pedestrian zone or an office without a dock is not a problem – we just need a few details first. Please check:
- how wide the street is and whether vehicles over 3.5 t may enter,
- when the delivery window applies and where the vehicle can stop,
- whether the goods are at ground level or come down from a floor or basement,
- whether someone on site helps with loading or the driver loads alone,
- whether the property manager, security or harbour office must approve the collection.
The same applies the other way: when we bring furniture, lighting or glass from Czechia to an address on the coast, we agree unloading with the owner or manager.
Which weekday is best for loading on the Riviera?
On the Italian route vehicles over 7.5 t may not run on Sundays and public holidays, usually from 9:00 to 22:00 and from 7:00 in summer, plus further days set by the annual calendar. Austria stops trucks from Saturday 15:00 to Sunday 22:00, and Tyrol sometimes lets them in only in blocks. On the French route the weekend ban runs from Saturday 22:00 to Sunday 22:00, and Germany has its Sunday ban. In practice:
- loads collected Monday to Wednesday reach Czechia the same week,
- for a Thursday collection we choose whichever route still makes a Friday delivery,
- goods loaded on Friday usually arrive on Monday or Tuesday.
In peak season the A8 around Cannes and Nice is heavily congested, so morning collections pay off. Many businesses also close for about two hours at lunchtime.
Is a van enough for a few pallets from Nice, or is groupage better?
It depends on how quickly you need the goods. Groupage from one pallet is the cheapest option for small shipments, but the freight is consolidated en route and takes a little longer. A small van carries about 5 pallets and a larger one about 10 – it runs direct and suits addresses without a dock. Part loads are priced by loading metres (1 euro pallet = 0.4 ldm), and a full trailer takes 33 euro pallets, 13.6 ldm and roughly 24 t.
If you buy from several suppliers, say in Sophia Antipolis and Carros, we collect both on the same day and the goods travel in one vehicle. On the Italian route, pallets from Genoa or Milan can be added.
Who books the transport, and what do we need for a quote?
Under EXW or FCA the buyer arranges the carriage – so you book us directly. Under DAP the supplier organises it. EU goods move without customs formalities; a CMR consignment note and an invoice or delivery note are enough. For a quote, send us:
- the supplier's address and the delivery point in Czechia or Slovakia,
- number of pallets or loading metres, dimensions and weight,
- loading hours, the collection reference and whether there is a dock,
- whether the street can take a large vehicle.
During office hours you get a price within 30 minutes, and after confirmation the vehicle is usually arranged within 24 hours. Since 2011 we have worked with more than 500 vetted contracted carriers. Other regions are covered on our page on transport from France and in the city list below.
