We arrange freight from Mallorca and Ibiza to Austria in usually 4–5 days – after a night on the ferry to Barcelona it is about 1,650 km to Graz and 1,850 km to Vienna, while Innsbruck (about 1,350 km) and Salzburg (about 1,500 km) are often reached in 3–4 days. We collect on all three main islands and deliver anywhere from Vorarlberg to Burgenland.
Via Germany or via Italy? The route depends on the delivery point
From Barcelona the truck always takes the AP-7 to the La Jonquera / Le Perthus crossing. After that it either runs through France and southern Germany or through southern France and northern Italy – chosen by the Austrian state and the day of the week the load sets off.
| Destination in Austria | approx. km from Barcelona port | Transit from the island | Usual corridor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Innsbruck and Tyrol | 1,350 + ferry | 3–4 days | northern Italy and the Brenner, or southern Germany and Kufstein |
| Salzburg | 1,500 + ferry | 3–4 days | Lyon, Mulhouse, Munich |
| Graz and Carinthia | 1,650 + ferry | 4–5 days | Ventimiglia, Genoa, Verona, Udine, Tarvisio, Villach |
| Linz | 1,700 + ferry | 4–5 days | through southern Germany via Munich |
| Vienna | 1,850 + ferry | 4–5 days | via Munich and Linz |
For Styria and Carinthia the southern option along the French coast and through the Veneto is often shorter; for Upper Austria and Vienna it pays to go through Germany.
How do the goods get from the island onto Austrian roads?
- Collection – at warehouses in the Son Castelló and Son Rossinyol industrial estates in Palma the trailer backs straight onto the dock; for a villa, a finca or the narrow streets of Inca and Sant Antoni a smaller vehicle collects and runs the goods to the port.
- Port – Palma or Alcúdia on Mallorca, Ibiza port on Ibiza, Mahón on Menorca.
- Overnight crossing – to Barcelona or Valencia, from Ibiza also to Dénia. The trailer often sails on its own and another tractor unit picks it up on the mainland.
- Road – along one of the corridors in the table to your address: a warehouse dock, a hotel's service yard or unloading from the street.
Ibiza and Menorca have fewer sailings, so we plan dates there more loosely.
What matters in the Alps and at weekends?
Austria keeps trucks over 7.5 t off the road from Saturday 15:00 to Sunday 22:00 and on public holidays; many routes, Tyrol included, also have night restrictions for noisy heavy vehicles, and in summer further limits apply on selected sections. France bans trucks from Saturday 22:00 to Sunday 22:00, Germany on Sundays and holidays, Italy on Sundays and holidays, usually from 9:00 to 22:00. A load leaving Barcelona on a Thursday or Friday can therefore reach Vienna only on Monday. Tolls – Spanish autopistas, French péage, the German truck toll or Italian autostrade and the Austrian GO-Maut including Alpine sections – are included in the price.
Hotels, hospitality and moves: what travels from the Balearics to Austria
- Hotel equipment – during winter refits on Mallorca and Ibiza (November to April) beds, furniture and catering equipment are replaced; some of it ends up in warehouses in Tyrol and the Salzburg region.
- Binissalem wine for wine shops and restaurants in Vienna and Graz.
- Olive oil and almonds from Sóller and the Serra de Tramuntana for delicatessens.
- Furniture and artificial pearls from Manacor, shoes and leather goods from Inca.
- Households of Austrians returning from the island – furniture from fincas and apartments.
Hotel equipment and furniture are bulky but light, so we price them by loading metre rather than by weight.
Pallet, part load, full trailer
A single pallet can travel as groupage; a euro pallet takes 0.4 loading metres. Larger consignments go as a part load, and a full trailer offers 13.6 loading metres, 33 euro pallets and about 24 t. Goods from several suppliers on the island – say Binissalem wine and Sóller olive oil for one Austrian buyer – are combined in one vehicle, each consignment on its own CMR. For bigger volumes we arrange a dedicated vehicle through our network of more than 500 vetted contracted carriers.
Delivery terms and paperwork
If you buy on the island EXW or FCA, transport is the buyer's responsibility and you book it with us; under DAP the seller arranges it. Goods from the Balearics are EU goods: nothing is cleared through customs, a CMR and a delivery note or invoice are enough. On the islands most loading happens in the morning, hotels have fixed delivery times in season and nothing is loaded on the regional holiday of the Balearic Islands – so we need the loading hours and reference in advance.
What we need from you to price it
- place and type of collection point, loading hours and reference number,
- Austrian delivery postcode and whether there is a dock at both ends,
- number of pallets or an item list with dimensions and weight,
- the day everything will be ready.
During office hours you get a price within 30 minutes; we usually arrange the vehicle within 24 hours and tie the ferry to the collection. Transport within Austria is covered on transport to Austria, the weekly line to the islands on transport to Mallorca and Ibiza. From the Balearics we also ship to the Czech Republic and Slovakia, to Germany, to Italy and to France.
Do you ship from the Balearics to Austria regularly, say every season? We can set up a routine that runs from the island to your warehouse – more on regular transport, or contact us.
