Bergamo and Lecco supply plants across Europe with tubes, wire, springs and valves. We arrange their transport over the Brenner to the Czech Republic and Slovakia, by full truck or pallet by pallet.

We arrange freight from Bergamo and Lecco to the Czech Republic, usually in 2–3 days – seamless tubes from Dalmine, wire and springs from Lecco, compressors, valves and textile trims from the Val Seriana. Bergamo is about 900 km from Prague and roughly 930 km from Brno. We handle full trailers as well as single pallets on groupage and deliver to any address in the Czech Republic or Slovakia.

What ships from the Bergamo and Lecco provinces, and on which trailer?

The Bergamasca is engineering country, with a dense web of mid-sized suppliers. For transport this means cargo that is mostly heavy, long or crated – and that drives the choice of vehicle and loading method:

AreaGoodsTrailer and loading
Dalmineseamless steel tubes in bundlescurtainsider, crane loading from above or the side
Lecco and surroundingswire, springs, fastenerspallets and heavy crates, weight is usually the limit
Greater Bergamo, Seriatecompressors, valves, fittingspallets and wooden crates, watch centre of gravity and securing
Val Serianazips, buttons, technical textilescartons on pallets, often groupage priced by loading metre
Treviglio and the plainmachine parts, production componentsdock loading, fixed delivery slot

How long can tubes from Dalmine be?

A standard trailer has a loading length of 13.6 m. Tube bundles up to that length go on an ordinary curtainsider, crane-loaded from above or from the side, with a full payload of around 24 t. Anything longer needs a special vehicle and individual arrangement, so please state the length and weight of the bundles. Bundles must be tightly strapped and laid on bearers so nothing shifts under braking.

Wire and springs from Lecco: why does the trailer leave half empty?

Wire coils and crates of springs or screws pack a lot of weight into a small footprint. The trailer hits its 24 t limit long before all 33 pallet spaces are filled. We spread heavy pallets evenly across the deck and never stack them. For compressors and valves in crates we also want to know where the centre of gravity sits and whether the crate can be forklifted – that decides between straps and load bars.

Air from Orio al Serio, or road?

Orio al Serio airport sits right next to Bergamo. For an urgent spare part that must be in the Czech Republic the next day, air freight makes sense. Pallets, tube bundles and regular supply runs are far cheaper by road, though, and travel door to door with no transhipment. For moderately urgent shipments we offer a van running direct, with no stops for other shippers.

Which route, and when should Bergamo load?

The truck heads east on the A4 past Brescia and Verona, then up the A22 to the Brenner and on via Innsbruck, Kufstein, Rosenheim, Munich and Regensburg to the Waidhaus/Rozvadov crossing. For southern Moravia and Slovakia – Žilina, Trnava or Nitra, say – the route via Tarvisio, Villach and Vienna works better. Tolls for Italian motorways, the Brenner, Austria and Germany are included. Austria restricts trucks at night and from Saturday 15:00, and Kufstein sometimes releases lorries in blocks. Italy bans vehicles above 7.5 t on Sundays and public holidays, and on some summer Saturdays. A Friday-afternoon loading is therefore planned so the truck clears Austria before the weekend ban.

Several suppliers and empty racks back

If you buy from several smaller manufacturers between Bergamo and Lecco, there is no need to book each shipment on its own. We suggest this approach:

  • list the suppliers with address, loading hours and order reference;
  • for each pickup give the number of pallets or crates, dimensions and weight;
  • for long goods add the length and whether crane loading is needed;
  • tell us your plant's delivery windows and we schedule unloading to match;
  • if empty racks or pallets go back, give the count – we take them to the supplier on the return run.

Groupage starts from one pallet; one euro pallet takes 0.4 loading metres and a full trailer holds 33 euro pallets over 13.6 loading metres. For regular supply from Lombardy we agree fixed loading days. Goods from Bergamo can also be combined with a pickup in neighbouring Milan.

Who books, and what goes into the quote request?

Under EXW or FCA the Czech buyer books the transport and we agree the date with the Italian supplier; under DAP the supplier arranges it. Within the EU there is no customs duty; the load travels with a CMR consignment note, delivery note and, where needed, material certificates. For a quote we need the loading point, delivery address, weight, dimensions or length and the required date. You get a price within 30 minutes during office hours and a vehicle usually within 24 hours. General information is on transport from Italy. Knapek Spedition in Břeclav has organised freight since 2011 with more than 500 vetted contracted carriers.

Frequently asked questions

How long can tube bundles from Dalmine be for a standard trailer?
A trailer has 13.6 m of loading length, which fits the usual mill lengths. For longer pieces we use a special vehicle and arrange any permits needed.
Are steel tubes in Dalmine loaded by crane?
Bundles are usually lifted in by crane from above or the side, so we send a curtainsider with a sliding roof or removable sides. Tell us what equipment the supplier's dispatch has.
How many wire coils from Lecco fit on one truck?
Weight decides, not the count – a truck takes about 24 t. We spread the coils so no axle is overloaded and secure them against shifting.
Is it worth sending a few cartons of screws from Lecco to Brno?
Yes, small shipments go as groupage from 1 pallet. Heavy cartons are best stretch-wrapped on a pallet so they do not move in transit.
Does the truck from Bergamo go over the Brenner or through Switzerland?
We run along the A4 past Brescia and Verona, over the Brenner and through Austria. Switzerland is outside the EU, so we do not use it on this route.
When is the route via Tarvisio and Vienna better?
When unloading in southern Moravia or Slovakia, the way via Villach and Vienna can work out better. We decide by delivery address and the traffic at the Brenner.
Will block dispatching at Kufstein delay a plant delivery?
On some days it can cost a few hours. We allow for it in planning and keep a time buffer on deliveries to production.
Can you move a compressor or a large valve in a wooden crate?
Yes, crates on pallets or skids are carried and secured with straps. We need dimensions, weight and, for uneven crates, where the centre of gravity is.
Will you bring zips and buttons from Val Seriana to a textile firm in the Czech Republic?
Yes, palletised cartons usually travel as groupage. They are light, so the price is based on the space they take in the trailer.
Should an urgent spare part from Bergamo fly via Orio al Serio instead?
If the part must be on the line the next day, an air express is faster. For pallets and regular supplies the truck is cheaper and avoids transhipment.
Do I pay Italian motorway charges and the Brenner toll on top?
No, Italian motorway charges, the Brenner toll and the Austrian and German tolls are included in the quoted price.
Can you take empty metal racks back to Bergamo?
Yes, returnable racks and pallets are loaded after unloading and taken back to the supplier. Tell us the quantity and the return address.
Will goods loaded in Seriate on Friday be unloaded in Pilsen on Monday?
Usually yes, provided the truck clears Austria before the weekend ban. We confirm the exact plan when you book.
Can parts from Treviglio go straight to a plant in Slovakia?
Yes, we unload anywhere in Slovakia, for example in Žilina, Trnava or Nitra, to the goods-in time slot.
Does steel from Italy to the Czech Republic need customs papers?
No, goods from Italy move within the EU without customs. A CMR consignment note and delivery note are enough, plus any material certificates your goods-in wants.
