What is the route from the Czech Republic to Finland?

There are two ways to Finland. Most often we drive via Dresden and Berlin to Travemünde (about 700 km from Prague) and take the ferry to Helsinki – the crossing takes roughly 29–30 hours. The second way runs overland through Poland and the Baltics along the Via Baltica to Tallinn (about 1,700 km) and on a short ferry across the Gulf of Finland to Helsinki.

From Helsinki it is about 180 km to Tampere and around 170 km to Turku. Typical transit is 3–4 days from loading depending on the ferry departure; allow an extra day for northern Finland (Oulu).

Where we go in Finland – industrial centres

We most often head to these cities and industrial areas with manufacturing and automotive companies:

  • Helsinki – production, IT, port
  • Tampere – engineering
  • Turku – shipbuilding
  • Oulu – technology
  • Espoo – Nokia
  • Lahti – production

What do we transport to Finland?

To Finland we carry engineering components for machine and lift manufacturers around Helsinki and Tampere, parts for marine engines in Vaasa, building materials, glass and palletised consumer goods for distribution centres in the Helsinki–Vantaa area.

For ferry transport the load must be firmly secured against movement at sea and the shipment is declared to the shipping line in advance, so exact weight and dimensions in your enquiry matter.

Which tolls and rules apply in Finland?

  • Tolls: Finland charges no road tolls for trucks. Costs only arise on the way – the German toll, or Polish and Baltic charges on the Baltic route – and for the ferry.
  • Driving ban: Finland has no weekend truck ban; restrictions apply only in German transit on Sundays and holidays.
  • Winter: from December to February trucks in Finland must have winter tyres. North of Tampere we plan for snow, short days and longer driving times.
  • Ferry: the long crossing from Travemünde counts as the driver's rest while the goods keep moving.

What do we transport from Finland to the Czech Republic?

Frequently asked questions

Which cities in Finland do you serve?
Most often Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Espoo and other industrial centres – dozens of cities in total.
Can you arrange regular transport to Finland, there and back?
Yes. We arrange regular transport to Finland on fixed days and, if you like, there and back: the vehicle delivers your goods and loads the next consignment on the way back, such as returnable packaging or goods for your warehouse. The rate is agreed for a longer period.
How long does transport to Finland take?
Transport to Finland usually takes 3–4 days from loading, and we arrange a vehicle within 24 hours.
Which route does a truck take from the Czech Republic to Finland?
A truck to Finland usually drives via Berlin to Travemünde and takes the ferry to Helsinki. The alternative is overland through Poland and the Baltics to Tallinn and the short ferry to Helsinki.
How long is the ferry from Germany to Finland?
The Travemünde–Helsinki ferry takes about 29–30 hours. The Tallinn–Helsinki ferry takes only around two hours, but you have to drive through all the Baltic states to reach it.
How many kilometres is it from Prague to Helsinki?
Via Travemünde it is about 700 km by road from Prague plus the ferry; via the Baltics roughly 1,700 km plus the short ferry from Tallinn. Which route we choose depends on the deadline and the next sailing.
Do trucks pay tolls in Finland?
No, Finland charges no road tolls for trucks. On the way you pay the German toll or Polish and Baltic charges plus the ferry – all included in our quote.
Does a truck need winter tyres in Finland?
Yes, from December to February trucks in Finland must have winter tyres. In winter we plan for snow and frost and carry frost-sensitive goods in temperature-controlled trucks.
Why does transport to Finland take 3–4 days?
Finland is reached by a combination of road and ferry, and the crossing from Travemünde takes more than a day. According to our transit time overview we therefore plan 3–4 days from loading, one day more for northern Finland.
Do you deliver to Tampere, Turku and Vaasa?
Yes, we serve Tampere, Turku, Vaasa and Lahti regularly. From Helsinki it is about 180 km to Tampere, around 170 km to Turku and roughly 420 km to Vaasa.
Do you also go to northern Finland?
Yes, we deliver to Oulu, Tornio or Rovaniemi too. Allow one to two extra days and, in winter, the effect of weather and short daylight.
Why do you need the exact weight for Finland?
The shipment travels by ferry and the shipping line requires the weight and dimensions of the vehicle and load in advance. The load must also be secured against movement at sea – so we need exact details.
Do you carry single pallets to Finland?
Yes, single pallets for Finland travel as part loads with other shipments via Travemünde or Tallinn. For a fixed delivery date we recommend a full truck.
Is transport to Finland free of customs duty?
Yes, Finland is in the EU, the eurozone and Schengen, so goods travel without customs duty. A CMR and commercial documents are enough; the ferry operator asks for cargo details.
Do you serve the ports of Kotka and Hamina?
Yes, we deliver goods for onward shipping to the port of HaminaKotka and load there too. We need the shipping line and cut-off in good time.
Do you also carry goods from Finland to the Czech Republic?
Yes, we handle imports from Finland regularly – paper, stainless steel, machine parts and timber. We load in southern and western Finland and deliver to the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
