Fruit from Imathia and Pieria, olives from Chalkidiki

The plain around Veria and Naoussa in Imathia is the heart of Greek peach growing; fresh fruit is picked from June to September and the local canneries turn out canned peaches all year. Around Katerini in Pieria kiwifruit is grown – harvested in autumn and shipped from cold stores into spring. Green olives from Chalkidiki leave in jars and tubs on pallets.

  • Veria and Naoussa – fresh peaches and nectarines in a reefer, canned fruit in cartons.
  • Katerini – kiwifruit in crates, usually at 0–2 °C as instructed.
  • Chalkidiki – olives and olive oil, no refrigeration needed.
  • Serres – farm produce and food from the north-east of the region.

Sindos, Kalochori and Kilkis: industry and warehouses around Thessaloniki

The Sindos industrial zone west of the city houses food, packaging and metalworking plants, Kalochori by the port has distribution and wholesale warehouses, and the Kilkis industrial area north of Thessaloniki sits right on the road to the border. The container terminal in the port of Thessaloniki handles overseas cargo; clearance is done by the importer's customs agent and we take over with the road leg.

What matters on the long haul from Greece

The route crosses five or six countries, each with its own holidays and truck restrictions, and in Greece many warehouses close around Orthodox Easter and 15 August. A full truck takes 33 euro pallets or 13.6 loading metres up to about 24 t; smaller lots go as groupage from one pallet. EU goods travel without customs.

Frequently asked questions

How many days does a reefer with peaches take from Veria to Brno?
Usually 3–4 days from loading. Brno is about 1,350 km away, and the route via Bulgaria and Romania has no customs checks.
Is the road via Bulgaria or via Serbia better for goods from Thessaloniki?
Mostly via Bulgaria and Romania, because the whole route is inside the EU and Schengen. Via North Macedonia and Serbia you need a transit document and should expect border queues.
Who issues the transit document if the truck goes through Serbia?
The shipper's customs agent in Greece. Without it, EU goods cannot cross North Macedonia and Serbia.
Which crossing does a truck from Thessaloniki use into Bulgaria?
Usually Promachonas – Kulata near Serres. From there it follows the Struma motorway to Sofia and on to the Vidin – Calafat bridge.
Is the Vidin – Calafat bridge charge included in the price?
Yes, the bridge charge and the tolls in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary are part of our price.
At what temperature do you carry kiwifruit from Katerini?
As the shipper specifies, for kiwi usually just above zero. The reefer holds the set temperature for the whole journey.
When is peach season in Imathia?
Fresh peaches and nectarines are picked roughly from June to September. Canned peaches from the local canneries travel all year round.
Do you carry Chalkidiki olives in jars and in tubs?
Yes, on stretch-wrapped pallets. Olives usually do not need a reefer unless the shipper says otherwise.
Do you load in the Sindos industrial zone?
Yes, Sindos and Kalochori are among the most common loading points in Thessaloniki. The warehouses there have docks for standard trailers.
Can one truck load in Kilkis and in Veria?
Yes, the two are about 100 km apart. We combine two collections in northern Greece on one vehicle.
Will you take goods from a container unloaded in the port of Thessaloniki?
Yes, once the importer's customs agent has cleared them. We collect at a warehouse by the port or in Kalochori.
How does Orthodox Easter affect loading in Greece?
Around Orthodox Easter and 15 August many Greek warehouses are closed. We plan collections in those days well ahead.
Can part of a load from Thessaloniki be dropped in Bratislava and the rest in Brno?
Yes, the route through Hungary passes Bratislava, so drops in Slovakia and Moravia fit into one run.
Is it worth sending just a few pallets of canned peaches from Thessaloniki?
Yes, small shipments travel as groupage from one pallet. Canned fruit in cartons needs no refrigeration.
Do you also go from the Czech Republic to Thessaloniki and bring fruit back?
Yes, we deliver goods from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to northern Greece. On the way back the vehicle often loads fruit in Imathia or Pieria.
