What is the route from the Czech Republic to Portugal?

We reach Portugal through Germany, France and Spain. From Prague the route goes via Nuremberg and Saarbrücken or Strasbourg into France, via Paris or Lyon to Bordeaux, across the Hendaye–Irún crossing to Burgos and on via Valladolid and Salamanca to the Portuguese border at Vilar Formoso. Porto is about 2,600 km from Prague and Lisbon around 2,900 km.

Portugal is the most distant country we serve regularly. According to our transit time overview we plan 3–4 days from loading; with two drivers it is faster.

Where we go in Portugal – industrial centres

We most often head to these cities and industrial areas with manufacturing and automotive companies:

  • Lisbon – production, logistics
  • Porto – textile, production
  • Setúbal – Autoeuropa (VW)
  • Braga – electronics
  • Aveiro – ceramics, automotive
  • Coimbra – production

What do we transport to Portugal?

To Portugal we carry parts for the car plants in Palmela and Mangualde, engineering products, components for mould and plastics makers around Leiria and Marinha Grande, glass and building materials.

On the long route to Portugal we combine smaller shipments with goods for Spain so the truck is fully loaded and the price per pallet as low as possible.

Which tolls and rules apply in Portugal?

  • Tolls: Germany charges a distance-based toll, French motorways are tolled and Spain has only some tolled sections. Part of Portugal's motorway network has electronic toll gantries only, with no booths – payment is via an on-board unit.
  • Driving ban: on the way the French ban from Saturday 22:00 to Sunday 22:00 and regional restrictions in Spain (Basque Country) apply, so we build the weekend into the schedule.
  • Borders: all borders on the route are inside Schengen, with no customs checks.
  • Islands: Madeira and the Azores are part of the EU, but transport there goes by ship from Lisbon.
